In Kind Direct awarded £100,000 by Barclays’ Covid-19 Community Relief Programme

In Kind Direct is delighted to have been chosen as one of the 100 UK Charities to receive a donation of £100,000 from the Barclays 100x100 UK Covid-19 Community Relief Programme.

In Kind Direct distributes consumer goods donated by companies to UK charitable organisations working in the UK and overseas. Since it was formed in 1996 the charity has distributed over £268m worth of essential products, supporting over 11,000 charitable organisations and millions of people, as well as diverting 30,600 tonnes of usable goods from waste.  In Kind Direct operates from a warehouse and distribution centre in Telford, Shropshire.

Working in partnership with companies, brands and local charity partners, the grant from Barclays will enable In Kind Direct to distribute at least £500,000 in value of urgently needed consumer products to 2,500 households experiencing real, material deprivation caused by the Covid-19 crisis.

Back in April 2020, Barclays announced a £100m Community Aid Package to support charities that are helping people and communities most impacted by Covid-19.  £10m of this funding has been donated through their 100×100 UK Covid-19 Community Relief Programme, with In Kind Direct being one of 100 UK charities each receiving a donation of £100,000.

In Kind Direct was chosen by a selection committee for the meaningful work they are doing providing urgently needed consumer products such as toiletries, personal care, baby products, household cleaning products and IT equipment to struggling households across the UK.

The grant comes as In Kind Direct launches its #commUNITY campaign – an urgent lockdown response to address the immediate needs of thousands of partner charitable organisations, and to ensure a continuous supply of essential products.

Charlotte Walshe, Partnerships & Impact Director at In Kind Direct said:

“As the effect of the pandemic and lockdowns continue to reverberate through communities across the UK, this grant from Barclays 100×100 UK Covid-19 Community Relief Programme will enable In Kind Direct to get practical, tangible, support to where it is needed most. We are hugely grateful for their support.”

Nigel Higgins, Barclays Group Chairman, said:

“Covid-19 has created an unprecedented social and economic impact in the UK, with many sadly experiencing greater hardship due to the crisis. Incredible charities, such as Canine Partners have been playing a vital role in the UK’s response to the pandemic, ensuring urgent help reaches those most in need of support. As a bank we have been doing all we can for our customers, clients and colleagues, and we hope that our 100×100 programme and wider community aid package helps ensure that everybody in the communities in which we live and work is supported through this crisis.”
