What a week (and a bit)!

Only nine days into April and so much has happened. Charlotte, our Head of Charity Partnerships shares some highlights.

April 9 2020

Yesterday, the Chancellor announced a £750m support package for charities. We welcome this recognition of our sector and the vital role it plays both during the current crisis, and every day. This support is an important first step. NCVO estimates around £4bn is needed to ensure charities’ survival in the coming months, and we would welcome a commitment from the government to review the level of this support as the crisis continues.

At In Kind Direct, the spirit of collaboration and drive to get essential supplies to where they are most needed has been inspiring. We want to thank our charity partners for continuing their vital frontline services, our generous product donors for helping us to ensure a steady supply of goods, and our funders for making sure we can be here tomorrow, and the day after.

Thank you.

The need for In Kind Direct has never been more evident, and we want to share some highlights from just the first nine days of April:

  • Our target this year was to bring 600 new partners into our charity network. In the last eight days we’ve received over 170 registrations to join!
  • We have dispatched 500 orders, distributing products worth close to quarter of a million pounds to local communities.
  • Our warehouse has received a month’s worth of essential products already, with 300 pallets including toilet roll, hand wash and cleaning supplies. A further 1,300 pallets have already been pledged by our generous product donor companies
  • Our small fundraising team submitted four applications for critical funding to help us keep going.
  • On Saturday our Royal Founding Patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales shared a series of tweets about In Kind Direct from @ClarenceHouseHis messages have already received 1,000 likes, comments and shares and brought us 131 new followers and counting.
  • On Tuesday we launched the #ShareASquare campaign with Andrex®, who are donating £1 for every share of the hashtag as well as a million toilet rolls!
  • We have had some great coverage, celebrating our partnerships with Andrex® in The Grocery Trader and Essity in The Hexham Courant, which covers their Prudoe Mill factory

We are committed to maintaining a reliable service and steady supply of essentialto the thousands of charities that rely on us to keep delivering their vital support.
